Entrance hall

The entrance hall presents insights into the scientific collections in the museum. The magazines of the museum hold more than 600,000 zoological series. Original collection boxes from the insect collection show a section of the unimaginable form and colour variability of bugs, beetles and butterflies.  A selection of shell preparations from mussels, snails and cephalopods allows the visitor to perceive how diversely the animal body plans have evolved.

Next to the European bison, which was killed in 1921 in - what was then - East Prussia, the red king crab – Kamchatka crab in German – is a special eye catcher.
The diversity and richness of the collection is the basis for all exhibitions and research projects in the museum.
